"What if one of us distracts them," Iolana suggested, "while the others run? You know, engage them in conversation.... um... say there's a dibbun in the pond, and when they go to see, we all make a break for it?" she glanced sideways at Elip. "'Twas your idea to cross by the moles... Do you have a plan?" she asked. She hoped they would do something soon. Her legs were starting to cramp, keeping low the way she was.

Lisolette was right behind them as they hurried out into the Abbey lawns, "I s'pose we could use that Vermin thing Shade suggested...Per'aps the Flitcheye is gettin' to close to comfort for Abbey?" The ottermaid whispered, scratching her head, "But then again, they'd probably be comouflaged..." Lissy muttered glancing at the moles and then back to her companions. "What d'ye think, Elip?" [[OOC - I cuil'd Redwall Path, and didn't get this link at all. :c ]]
"But if we say there's vermin when there aren't any," Iolana murmured a tad self-consciously, "won't it cause an unnecessary panic? And Skipper might take some otters and other beasts out to search the woods for vermin.... we might get caught once we're out there, if they do." She shifted positions so that she was kneeling between Allicloud and the wall, giving her muscles a rest. "Where and why are we going, anyway?" she sighed, "I still don't know, and since it doesn't look like we're going anywhere at this very moment, please tell me..."

*Elip looked left then right, his footpaws pounding the ground lightly; he was anxious to do something! Deciding it was now or never, Elip said a quick and unfinished sentence to his friends before darting off.*
Just run for it! For all their skill with digging, mole eyesight is about as good as a…they shouldn’t notice fast blurs, their heads are under…
*Elip sped off, jumping over a small pile of ruble he darted for the east gate. It was his misfortune that a sharp stone had gotten caught in his footpaw and lodged itself deeply in as he pounded the ground in his swift run. Elip bit his lower lip, trying to keep it all in until he was passed the moles. Jumping over the behind of a mole whose head was in the dirt, Elip landed close to the gate and unlocked it as silently as possible; however his plan was not completely thought through and a few of the mole looked up curiously at him. The foremole Millim raised a questioning eyebrow at the young hare.*
And wut bees youm doeeng oot here an’ unlocking yon Abbey gate? Surpintly not hudded oot fur ee mornin’ walk oi’ll wager.
*Elip happed for a bit on his good footpaw, licking his lips as he searched for words.* Oh, er, uhm. I’m just…going with my friends to get firewood for the Friar’s cooking pit! Yes, that’s it, the cooking pit! *The Foremole opened one eye wide as Elip continued; still standing on one footpaw and using his forepaws to illustrate his story.*
Me and my friends were with the Friar, he’s got a pile of the WRONG wood for his cooking pit; I think somebeast brought a light type of poison oak he said. Can’t have the jolly meal rotted by a mammoth mound of poison oak, wot!
*The foremole nodded, as if considering what Elip had said; after hearing Elip’s words, most of the other moles had lifted their snouts and heads out of the ground. The foremole waved a finger up for ELip to be silent before speaking.*
If’n ee Froi’er gotten eem gurt maound o’ poison oak then we’m molers sure’ll be needed to move et all away, burr aye…Firtchclaw, Dirtsnout, you’uns go get ee supplies needed an’ the rest come wit me.
*The mole went about their given tasks, Elip was just stepping backwards closer to the gate when Foremole Millim suddenly stopped and turned around.*
One mer thing, werr bees ee frends dat bees a’goin’ wit yer, uh?

Lisolette luaghed as Elip blurred past, and trying to hide a giggle, Lissy dashed across the lawn. Things were going smoothly for her, except for swirving around a mole whose head was in dirt and the occasional jumping over dirt mounds. Then, she felt nothingness under her feet, and the ottermaid dropped into a hole.
"ERK!" Lissy complained as her feet hit the ground. She wobbled around for a bit before falling on her side. Groaning in annoyance, the ottermaid quickly got to her feed, ignoring the pains in her hip from the impact she took when she fell. The ottermaid hopped and gripped the rim of the hole. Grunting with extertion, Lisolette pulled herself out of her hole. She was on her knees when she realized a mole was staring at her. She nodded to him, "Top o' the mornin' to ye."
Looking away from the mole, who was shaking his head with confusion, she noticed Elip talking to the Foremole, Fizzin' flounders! He's doomed! Lisolette thought with a gasp, scurrying to her feet and scampering over to the hare and mole-leader.
"One mer thing, werr bees ee frends dat bees a’goin’ wit yer, uh?" Foremole asked.
"Right here, Foremole, me hearty!" Lisolette shouted as she skidded to a halt, "The rest of us are comin'-they're just gettin' ready."

Iolana watched Elip take off, slightly nonplussed but nonetheless fighting the urge to giggle. "Well..." she began-- and there went Lisolette. "...well, okay then!" she grinned, and, hiking up her habit in one paw, broke into a run. She took the "long way," unlike Lisolette and Elip, and went around the digging moles; unnecessary, since the majority of them upped and started going toward the abbey for some reason. She came along the wall behind Elip and Lisolette just as Lisolette finished saying something she didn't quite catch to the foremole.

Shade scurried across the working ground and stopped behind Lolana.
"What happened?"

Iolana jumped slightly when Shade appeared behind her, then murmured, "I'm not sure. My guess is they got the moles to go off and do something, but foremole wasn't entirely fooled." She took in the situation, hesitated, then stepped forward resolutely. "Hey, guys!" she said cheerfully. "What's the hold up, eh?" She hoped that hadn't been the wrong thing to say.

Allicloud hurried over to the group by the gate, "Sharp work there, mates. Now, can we get going? Me old paws are gettin' all tingly from the prospect of the wild again!" he whispered, shuddering with glee as he was almost back into the wild. Trying to bring himself under control, he grabbed the flask from in his bag and took a small swig of the raspberry cordial within. But the sweetness did quite the opposite, and now he was even more jittery with pent up energy.
"Hurry up, oh please, hurry! Let's get outside already!" Allicloud began muttering to nobody in particular.

"Foremole was just wonderin' where we was goin'. But I'm sure he understands that we're just going out to get some wood." Lisolette said, winking at her friends that had not heard the conversation between Foremole and Elip.
Allicloud was jittery, making Lissy giggle, "Heh! Of course, Alli, of course!" She chuckled, holding back a loud luagh. She gripped the wooden latches that barred Redwall from evil-dooers. Long seasons of war-time and Martins riddles had tuaght the Abbeybeasts well to defend themselves, even in peace. With a grunt of extertion, the ottermaid rose the latch, and set it in place. She pushed open the door, "Ta da!" Lissy chuckled.

Shade made herself look like the picture of innocence.
"Yeah, we REALLY need to get going, don't want to keep him waiting!" She said, walking out into the woods, and looking around. "All the good wood is farther off, I can see a couple of huge logs, I can't carry them myself... I'll need all of you to help me..."

Lisolette blinked at Shade and waited until everybeast went out before closing the gates behind them. Without any of the other Redwallers to stop them, she thought it was time to reveal to Iolana and Shade what they we were truly doing, "We're not going wood-choppin'." She puased, "We're going on a quest. Martin appeared to Elip in a dream when he was sleepin', I had a pretty strange dream meself, but I'll get to what I've been seeing later. Elip?"
She turned to the hare, "Ye might as well as pull out the rhyme now."

Shade's eyes got wide and she practically jumped on Elip.
"A riddle? What riddle? Can I see it? Huh? Huh? Can I?" She said, almost tearing Elip apart to get the riddle.

Upon hearing the excuse given to foremole, Iolana pasted a big, innocent smile and nodded. She waved at the mole cheerily as she passed Lisolette and stepped after Allicloud and Shade, outside of the haven of her birthplace. Iolana had only been outside the Abbey on a few occassions; she dug her footclaws into the dirt and looked around at the trees, this time grinning for real.
Her face became one of seriousness when the gate latched shut and the reason for their excursion finally became clear to her. "A message from Martin..." she murmured. This was serious. And exciting. She was going to be a part of a quest set before them by Martin the Warrior himself!
"Oh, do give us the riddle, Elip, please!" she begged, turning to the hare. "And the contents of your dreams as well. I'm sure they're important!" she was almost as antsy as Allicloud had been a moment before.

*Elip raised an eyebrow at Shade before leaving through the East Gate. Luckily the Foremole hadn't heard her, or he surely would have been suspicous again and taken them with him to the Friar. After coming out, Elip looked over his shoulder; making sure that the Formole was headed off to the Abbey before closing the gate behind him.*
"Ye might as well as pull out the rhyme now."
*Elip smiled and headed off across the path.* In good time, but right now we need to get out of sight 'afore the Foremole an' Friar find out that we've told a flippin' fib an' ditched the door, wot! C'mon!
