This thread began with Briar [[stoatmaid\\mousear]], the abbey chickenherder, waking from a nightmare to find she'd fallen asleep in the chicken house in the late morning. Recalling that bell-ringing practice is soon, she heads into the abbey to locate Twitch [[ferret\\iolana]], a simpleton to whom she is something like an older sister. On her way she is distracted by the great tapestry, the old stories of which she loves -- "how the evil warlord Martin had come to Mossflower, seeking his captured army, and nearly managing to take over with the help of the murderous madcat Gingervere and Black Mother Bella. They had ripped the palace of the fair wildcats to the ground, but, against all odds, Tsarmina the Just had risen back up against them and fended them away all on her own, then rebuilding the castles piece by piece with the sole assistance of her loyal captain of the guard, and the healing magic of the vixen Fortuna." (qtd. mousear)
Meanwhile, Twitch, having just woken up and managed to dress himself, realized he was late for bell ringing practice. Considering the task to be an important one, he rushes down stairs, getting lost briefly along the way, and becomes distracted by the majesty of great hall once he enters it. He ends up colliding with Briar, who, after scolding him in the manner of a "wildcat mother," leads him outside.
During this, Amber [[foxmaid\\Malum]], the herbalist, had been outside the abbey picking thyme from her herb garden. Unfortunately, it seemed an otter had trampled the garden, something which saddened her. She headed into the abbey grounds, where Briar, noticing her depressed attitude, asked what was wrong. Amber explained the herb garden and Briar, upset at such a thing as vandalism, suggested asking the wall guards if they'd seen anything before turning to Twitch and asking him to never leave the abbey. He promised.

The particular idea behind this thread -- credit to Malum -- was that the vermin of the canon (rats, ferrets, wildcats, etc.) were the goodbeasts living at the Abbey and likewise the mice/otters/hares/etc. were the bad guys. It didn't get very far, I'm sad to say; it was a pretty cute thread overall with fun posts, intriguing characters -- some of which were never introduced, and the potential for real Epicness.
