History: Lt. Benton Grew up on the fringe of Mossflower. Where the south meadow, east forest, western grasslands, and north path all converged. He was an only child, but grew up playing with the neighboring Goldsworthy family. The Goldsworthys had at least a dozen children, possibly more. No one had ever gotten the family still enough to count. They also had adopted a young squirrel who was older than most of the brood and was greatly admired. Besides being very rich the Goldsworthys were also very erratic, jolly, and interesting. They all ran around the country as the “Grass Patrol” emulating the famed Long Patrol and had a wonderful time slaying imaginary vermin. Sometimes they would go to the abbey and play with the DAB dibbuns there, and would recruit the dibbuns and help them escape the abbey. They were always caught, and the dibbuns returned to redwall until the next day when they escaped again. This practice was finally put to an end when they were caught repelling down the abbey walls with escaping dibbuns. Young Patrick had his tail scalped by the badgermum, Mr. Goldsworthy and Mr. Benton. Afterwards he cried for an hour, played with a candle to cheer himself up and then promptly accidentally started a grass fire. The “Grass Patrol” began taking swimming lessons from their young otter mates directly afterward.

When Matthew was 10 seasons old, there was a house fire in the settlement. The family of otters that lived there died. Joseph Mossfollow was the only one of the family to live. He had snuck out to go fishing at night. Joseph left the settlement at 13 seasons. He was never the same. He lived off the land, generosity, and his wits. When he returned one day he called himself “Tracks”. He came back to the settlement at the beginning of every season to visit the spot where his house and family had burned. He was greatly admired by all the young ones of the village. Two especially. Mathew Lightpaw and a fox, Patrick McPeek. They would probe him for all the stories he could tell about his adventures. They begged him to let them go with him. Their parents wouldn’t hear of it. The Mossfollow boy had become a pawloose ruffian. A beast to be pitied and fed and then sent off back into the wilderness. But Joseph alias Tracks secretly promised them he would take them along when they turned 13 seasons. When summer came, Matthew and Patrick snuck away with Tracks. Tracks died three seasons later of a fever. Matthew and Patrick were on their own. Ten seasons later there are Guides and body guards for the hire of anybeast making long journeys. When business is slow, they hire themselves out for espionage.

Gender: Male
Motto: “Y’take what ye get, and you ‘ave ta take to get!”
Friends/Family:
Appearance: Trick is a dibbun red fox. He has the normal markings of his kind. Red fur, white underside, black paws and eartips. He wears his abbey smock mostly. He carries his candied chestnuts on his belt. He keeps his stolen knife hidden when elders are near.
Weapons: Small kitchen paring knife.
Personality: Trick is crafty. He can be manipulative and very naughty. In fact he has taken “naughty” to a new level. The other dibbuns treat him with a mix of awe, admiration, and fear. Fear: Everything Talents: sneaking, stealing, stalking, pouncing, kicking, scratching, biting
Secrets: Is just a scared little dibbun on the inside.
Trick is something of a legend. He is an orphan like most other dibbuns at the abbey. Unlike most dibbuns he is a fox. He was found on the bank of the south ford, while abbey beasts and dibbuns were on a berry picking outing. He was hesitantly taken in with the fear that he would grow up inherently evil. After many tribulations he has managed to become a mysterious mystery among dibbuns and an irrelevant fact among the elders. He disappears often. Rumor has it he escapes the abbey regularly without a trace. Nobeast knows if this is true. Or if it is, how it is he leaves the abbey.
