Name: Renna (‘the Rapier’)
Species: shrew
Age: twenty
Gender: female
Motto: Expect the worst and you’ll never be disappointed.
Friends/family: Tabbo (father), Thrush (friend), members of the Guosim.
Foes: vermin. Anybeast who annoys her.
Appearance: She’s a short, gray shrew, with dark, spiky fur on her back and head, which lightens and softens to a light, misty gray on her underbelly. She wears a plaid kilt down to the knee, with green, purple and blue stripes, a broad, brown belt at her hips and a light blue shirt, small hooped earrings, and has large, black eyes. Her ears have a few nicks, since she is the kind of beast to be violently inclined and has gotten into many fights. Her nose, tail and paws are a pale pink, and her eyes are usually narrowed into an irritated frown.
Weapons: a thin rapier, with a golden-coloured handle and wrapped with blue cloth. She also carries a vine sling, along with a pouch of river stones hanging from her belt.
Talents: kicking vermin butt, arguing, fist(/paw?)-fighting and rowing.
History: Renna was born in the Guosim’s Summer camp, to Cuppan and Mingo. She grew up in a logboat, squabbling with the other shrewlets and eating anything she could get her paws on. At the age of six, Thrush’s family travelled with her tribe to Redwall. Renna met Thrush and immediately said ‘you’s tunic’s on backwards’. The young otter didn’t seem troubled by this and followed her everywhere. (She did not rearrange her tunic.) They became good friends, and upon reaching the Abbey, said an unhappy goodbye. The shrew had other friends, too, shrews about her age, and she was very happy poking other beasts with sticks, snatching pasties and learning how to paddle a logboat until she was nine, when Cuppan died in a skirmish with some foxes. Renna stopped talking, poking with sticks, paddling, or doing much else until Thrush and her family travelled back to Green Isle. The otter was determined to coax Renna out of her shell, and eventually irritated the shrew so much that she snapped ‘shaddup y’old blowface’ and seemed to go back to semi-normal. When she was thirteen, Mingo decided to retire from Guosim-ing and go live at Redwall. His wife’s loss had made him age ten seasons, and he wanted to settle down and sit by warm fires with old friends. Luckily, Thrush was staying at Redwall as well, and the two got up to about everything small, furry being can get up to in an Abbey full of food and mud. When Renna was fifteen, Thrush went back to Green Isle, and she sulked for weeks. Eventually, she took up the role of bellringer, until the otter came back, two seasons later. They both decided that living in an Abbey full of old beasts was too boring to stand, and left Redwall to be wanderers like the heroes from stories. Mingo gave them his old boat, the Point, and they paddled down the river Moss, arguing and beating up rogue vermin. Two seasons later, they started back for the Abbey to visit their parents.
Personality: Inside, part of Renna is still the frightened nine-season-old who lost her mother, but she’s made a tough shell of annoyed warrior-ness to hide this. She’s deeply pessimistic, and finds optimists, such as Thrush, very irritating. The shrew is by no means a well of deep despair and blackness in need of a psychiatrist, however. Though jealous of beasts with mothers, she’s severely badass and likes to think that she’s ‘not afraid of anything’. This is almost true, and she’d cut off her own nose to spite her face, so to speak. If captured by an enemy, it’s likely that she’d kill herself rather than be beaten. She loves to be right, and has gotten into many fights with anybeast who suggests otherwise. How she and Thrush ever became friends is a mystery, but one can only say that ‘opposites attract’ and hope for the best.

Name: Rosheen (‘Thrush’) Widerudder
Species: otter
Age: eighteen
Gender: female
Motto: Everything happens for the best.
Friends/family: Aleanora (mother), Chord (father), Banba, Bevall, Juverna (sisters, all younger) and Tras (younger brother).
Foes: vermin, wildcats, hurtful beasts in general.
Appearance: Thrush is short and stocky for an otter, though still long and lithe. Her tail is thick and muscular, which gives her her name, Widerudder. Her fur is brown, which pales to cream on her throat and underbelly, and she has hazel eyes. She wears a white shirt, rolled up to the elbows, and a green tunic, which goes a bit past her knees, belted at the hips by a brown belt, with a few pouches hanging from it. In the rainy seasons, she also wears a heavy brown cloak, which repels most of the water. Around her right ankle is a purple ribbon with a black rock strung on it, a gift from her youngest cousin. She also has hoops in both ears, and a fishbone tailring. Around her left bicep is a twisting black tattoo.
Weapons: An otter javelin, and her paws. She’s a formidable pawfighter.
Talents: Acting, throwing javelins, pawfighting, lifting heavy objects, making messes.
History: Rosheen was born on Green Isle. Her father was from Mossflower, though her mother was a clan otter. Her family nicknamed her Thrush, as she was as flightly and happy as a bird. Two seasons after Tras and Banba were born, when Thrush was four, they travelled to Redwall with the Guosim, where Thrush met Renna. They stayed in Mossflower Country for four seasons, where both Bevall and Juverna were born. When Thrush was eight, they went back to Green Isle, with the same tribe of shrews. The otter found out that Renna’s mother had died, and set about consoling her. She grew up in Holt summerdell, with her many cousins and younger siblings, until, at age fourteen, she moved back to Redwall, with her parents and younger siblings. To her delight, Renna was living there too, and she entertained herself until she was sixteen, when she decided that the world was calling her. Renna grumbled that she’d get herself killed without the shrew’s guidance, and went along. The pair travelled Mossflower in Renna’s logboat, the Point.
Personality: Rosheen is overly optimistic, slightly naïve, and very friendly. She isn’t one to hold a grudge, and is mostly easygoing, though dislikes all vermin, and is likely to fight first and ask questions later. She doesn’t ‘look before she leaps’ and generally gets herself into trouble. Thrush isn’t stupid, but she isn’t big on reading or maths.

Name: Dram Maskeyes
Species: ferret
Age: 24
Gender: female
Motto: Look first, love later.
Friends/family: Brant. (half-brother) Abbess Thorne. (mentor-ess)
Foes: an unhealthy amount.
Appearance: She’s normal ferret, long, creamy body, brown paws, mask and ears, with large, slate-coloured eyes. Her ears have earring holes and many rips, and she wears a blue dress, yellow apron and maroon shawl. She stands tentatively, hunched over, and fiddles with her shawl, her ears and her apron strings nervously almost constantly.
Weapons: none.
Talents: hiding, stealth, climbing rigging, quiet backstabbing, cooking. In general: survival.
History: Dram was born on Terramort, the younger sister of Brant and daughter of Callag. Her father dropped by every once in a while on shore leave. The strain of raising two small ferrets took it’s toll on her mother, who mainly ignored her and her half-brother. Brant took care of Dram to an extent, and taught her to pick pockets. When she was eight seasons old, he stole a visiting captain’s jeweled dagger, who found him, retrieved it, and stabbed him. Dram scraped by after that, and joined a ship’s crew as soon as possible, when she was twelve. A few seasons later, the ferret decided that a mutiny against her captain was imminent, when things would most probably get very dangerous. She left the ship at it’s next stop, on the Western shore. She stole a sack of provisions, which got her chased by her former shipmates. She hid in Mossflower, and eventually stumbled upon Redwall, emaciated and panting. They took her in, confiscated her poisoned dagger, cutlass and strangling chord, and let her work in the kitchens. She got meat on her bones, and got accustomed to life among goddbeasts fairly smoothly, though a few choice items disappeared from Great Hall and reappeared under her cot.
Personality: Dram grew up quiet, sneaky, and utterly unconcerned with anybeast but herself. She didn’t trust vermin, or goodbeasts. When she arrived in Redwall, at first she thought of the brothers and sisters as stupid, oblivious blunderers, but as she saw the love between them, she started realizing that happiness didn’t mean stupidity, and saw how hollow her life had felt on Terramort. She’s terrified that the Redwallers loather her for being a ferret and a former corsair, and worries that they’ll kick her out of the Abbey. She’s painfully shy around them.
