I just like Fantasy... The thing about Fantasy is that the writer can make literally anything happen. Want a world where mice fight with swords (it can be done). A kid going to a school for magic in a world where dragons and goblins and phoenixes live in a hidden world inside our real world. (In fantasy it can happen) From the basic fantasy (Dungeons and Dragons, Warcraft, Lord of the rings) To a bit more complex. (Alice in wonderland, Myst) That is what I love about fantasy is that there is no limit except your own imagination. (Same with Sci-Fi but that's limited to Science/Aliens) I will say, to me it's the most awesome genre. What is your favourite type of genre?

Well, I personally like any fiction, but sometimes non-fiction is cool to read too.

All genres can count if you like them equally

WHAAAAT? Lord of the rings is not "Basic" fantasy! It's a heck of a lot more complex than Alice in wonder land. The fact that it's next to the word Warcraft is an insult!
Tolkien rant end.

I tried reading The Hobbit once, which was my only attempt at LOTR, and I couldn't make it through, it was just too long xP.

I've read the hobbit up until the dragon part, where I stopped for some reason.

I couldn't even make it to the second chapter, it was way too slow. I found "Silverwing" by Kenneth Oppel a lot more appealing. Though, it was a LOT shorter...

I apologize....but I didn't mean the story was basic I meant the setting. Trolls, Dragons, Orcs, Wizards... that fantasy setting is overdone... though many say that's the whole point of what fantasy is but I think as long as it goes beyond imagination... it's fantasy. Honestly... LoTR, Dungeons and Dragons, and Warcraft are all the same to me setting wise.
Alice was unique and has a level of insane surrealness that no-one barely tackles. (But I'm not saying Alice is better, LOTR was one of the best and most influential fantasy novels ever) And I don't like World of Warcraft... I liked Warcraft 2 but that's where it ends for me.
Though fantasy worlds with trolls and dragons have been around for hundreds of years with old fairy tales I can't say Lord of the Rings started that. But it did help push that setting in the right direction.
But as admin in training I do not want to start a negative discussion here.

@ Chepsonek: Education has no factor in my dislike of The Hobbit. I just really don't care for drawly, super-descriptive novels, such as Tolkien's. That, and the fact that it was the only book I've ever tried reading which incorporated elves and fairy-tail creatures. It just really didn't appeal to me.

I'm male...I've read all the LoTR books....but about the educated part XD Cheeps right. LoTR is very influential to a lot of the worlds best writers. Even Stepen King admits that some of his books have a Tolkienesk influence behind them. I'm writing a series of books and short stories which all have influnce from about sixtuy authors from the 16 hundreds to current..XD
