Hello to all of you, sit down and prepare too. Get ready for the tale of FATE that is about to ensue. Some of you my know me, my name is Matthew.
I live with my mother and a clan for whom I farm,
I know sit on my bed and write as it relaxes my arm.
And so it is on this very date,
that I relate to you the stories of FATE.
The fate of whom you may inquire...
well the first will be about an otter whom we admire.
An otter whom, with talent and grace,
made us feel happy and wear smiles on our face.
And now I will tell you, without any more botha,
the fate of an otter, who's name was Sonoma
*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*
To begin this story, I think you should hear, is about a subject that did cause Sonoma many a tear. A curse, it would seem, that was horrid and wild. Thought so because Sonoma could not have child. Her husband WIlliams and she herself, had hearts broken in two with the news that I just told you. Sonoma and her Husband stayed in one spot of land, no longer having gusto or feeling cause to travel.
It was five seasons form that day that a mouse named Luke Nitram came their way, and over Sonoma he did pray to the seasons and to the Fates and just a week later, maybe less, maybe more, either Sonoma had gained weight, or there was a baby taking form.
And now I continue my story, in true writing fashion, a story of love, death, life, and passion!
The sun shone bright and warm upon the happy clan of otters. It seemed like many seasons since they had traveled. But upon the visit of the ancient mouse, Sonoma had been blessed with the conception of a child, now -which would seem odd to most beasts- Sonoma and Williams were in more mood to travel and explore than they had been before Sonoma was pregnant. Sonoma stood at the front oof her clan's ship as they sailed for an island they had encountered many many many seasons ago. One where they had rescued many slaves from, and encountered Breekane and his sea monster. Sonoma was bordering her last mid-seasons, as was Williams, the the two otters in their early Forties were just as spry and capable as otter's half their age; they felt as though they had a reason for life again.
Amber came up to Sonoma, holding a bowl of some sort of medicine in her aging paws. "Sorry to intrude on your moment of silence Skipper, but you medicine is ready now." Sonoma turned around, winking at Amber as she took the bowl and looked at its contents, "Oh whadoo mean my medicine? You know I only take this concoction b'cause you advise it for the health o' my child. Otherwise I'd never get close to it." With that, Sonoma emptied the bowl. Amber tried to hide a small laugh at the face Sonoma made while swigging the medicine down. Sonoma noticed Amber's hidden mirth and chuckled playfully, "Aye, laugh it up Amber. For the next season you'll be wonderin' why everything you drink tastes like the medicine you make, sounds good eh?"
Amber took the empty bowl from Sonoma and stared at her, smile plain across her face, "Oh yeah mate? Don't get the healer angry. I'll get your child so strong that when he jumps you'll sit and when he sits you'll jump!"
"LAND HO!" Sonoma and Amber argument of playful gander was interrupted by Trake's shout. The otter in question was pointing happily to the island. Trake, maybe even more than any otherbeast was enjoying everything about the past weeks. He yelled his words again and again, "Land HO! Land HO! Land that's not in th'same place! Glorious land we've sailed to! Land HO! Land HO!"
Sonoma was up and in the middle of the ship. Calling out orders and giving instruction, "Steady the main sail! Keep those lines together! Check the supplies, we'll need to know what's needed to gather once on land! Get me some sweet bread! No, I need more of it than that! Ready the anchors, these waters get shallow quick, so we may have to anchor and use the boats to paddle ashore! OOMPH!"
BOOM
The ship jerked sharply, all otter aboard deck rushed to help Sonoma who had fallen on her side. The force was so great that it threw Trake almost over board. He was hanging on the outside of the ship, holding the railing with his left paw. His rudder was only a couple feet from the water, what he saw inside of the water chilled him to his spine. He suddenly thought it very important to get back aboard the ship. Trake tried to get his right paw on the railing as well, but he couldn't hold on and kept slipping. "Help, somebeast! An otter fallin' o'erboard!"
Two otters named Rayz and Tarein reached over and lifted Trake from hanging on the ship's side. The smiles on their faces were dimmed quickly at the look on Trake's face. Trake went straight to Sonoma, who had been helped up by Williams, he spoke quickly, stumbling on his own words. "You won't believe it Sonoma! What our ship spit...hit! Tuz a, the, him...c'mon Skipp I'll just show ya'!" Williams was at Sonoma's side as they ran over to the ship railing. Trake yelled, finally able to finish his sentence, "It's Rexiks!"
The boat jerked sharply again, knocking its crew back to the opposite railing. All of the senior otters were in solemn fear. The younger not knowing what was going on, or who Rexiks was. Williams had no idea either, he helped his wife up, making sure she was ok before he asked, "Honey, oo's Rexiks? What's he got aginst us?" Sonoma was not in a mood to talk, she seemed fixed on getting to the boats railing to see the beast for herself. Trake heard Williams question and answered for her, "Rexiks was a sea monster used by his masgter Breekane to bring lone ship to the shores o' this island! But it doesn't make sense, the last we met o' him, two super warrior Glee and Jentleer slew it! That was over fifteen seasons ago, Elip was still a young 'un! AAAHOOMPH!"
The ship jerked again,s ending the otters back to the deck, Williams was prepared, he held onto a crate, using his body to hold his wife up, so that she would not fall again. Williams steadied Sonoma, keeping behind her until she was back on her footpaws, "Killed, fifteen seasons ago?! He feels pretty alive to me!" Williams grabbed Sonoma's paw as they worked their way to the ship's railing, this was taking a considerable amount of time given the size of the ship, and the contestant harsh jerks and pounds given to it by the sea monster Rexiks.
The burly otter covered Sonoma's ears then yelled at the top of his lungs, "BATTLE STATIONS! This creature is nay going to let us git past! We've got a fight with a monster on our hands!" The otter clan went around the deck, scrambling and stumbling to get to their stations for battle.
Sonoma could feel pains in her stomach, stress filled her mind at the prospect of the nearly unstoppable monster still being alive. She had seen its death with her own eyes, sailed through the red coated waters of its blood while escaping the island, how could it still be alive?! Now her stomach pains grew fierce, she withdrew her paw from Williams, holding tight to her stomach, "You go ahead! I can't continue moving through all this shiftin'." Williams shook his head, helping Sonoma to sit and then sitting beside her, "What for, we'll let somebeast else look at."
"GO, tell me what you see."
Williams arose, he had been married long enough to know the wisdom in listening to your wife. Seeing that Amber was working her way over to Sonoma, Williams headed to the rails. He grabbed a javelin off of the deck as he ran to the rails. He grabbed a javelin off of the deck as he ran to the rails. He looked over, and could not believe what he saw! Two eyes, many times bigger than he was, stared at him It WAS Rexiks. The monstrous eyes seemed to have more than one pupil, revolving around in them.
Williams did not wait for the monster to sink its head back into the water; he readied himself and then launched his javelin into the water, straight at the monster’s head. But then something odd happened. The weapon did not stop at Rexiks’ eyes, but instead went through. It was still visible even though it should have been long out of sight in the monster’s body. A small splash of blood came from where Williams threw the javelin, the ship stopped jerking, once again moving steady over the water. As the ship sailed onwards, otters crowded in the back to look at Rexiks, once the small splash of blood dissolved, everything was in plain sight.
It was indeed the body of the fabled sea monster Rexiks, but nothing more than his skeleton, now covered with coral structures, and sea debris; making it a small, hollow, submerged island in itself, and housing many different species of fish. It became clear to all of the relieved otters on board that there ship had run into the submerged skeleton, and as they sped their speed to escape, this only caused more run-ins with the skeleton of the long dead Rexiks. When Williams threw the spear, it had gone through the empty eye sockets and hit some fish living in the dead monster’s skull.
Aware of there being no need for alarm, Williams went to Sonoma and made sure she was ok. The Skipper in question was up and about, followed around by Amber, who was sure that Sonoma needed rest. “Oh, enough Amber, ‘Twas only a little twinge, caused by the stress o’ my thinkin’ yon monster was livin’. But that’s all over now, I feel just fine.” But the healer persisted, “But Skipper, stomach pains are nothin’ to take lightly. You should stay seated an’ rest ‘til you’re sure it’s settled down.”
Sonoma turned around and put a friendly paw on Amber’s shoulder, “I am glad you want to do what’s best for me. I know you’d just like to be prepared just in case, but you say I shouldn’t move until the pains are gone and I assure you they are. B’sides, if I take a rest, ‘twill be when on land, not here aboard the ship.” Amber nodded sagely, recognizing that Sonoma was right. The orangey-furred otter healer said one final sentence as she went off about her other duties, “Ok Skipper, but I’ll have a small cup of tonic made for you when we board. Just to make sure your stomach stays settled after all of that shaking.”
Sonoma smiled as she saw Williams come over to her, “Tonic, it’s called tonic. Why not sweet liquid, or cordial?” Williams smiles as replied, “Oh, I don’t think Amber would call it any of those nice things, ‘asides, she’s not one for lying!” Sonoma brushed passed Williams playful but roughly as she went to the bow of the ship.
The otter clan boarded the shores of the island. Not needing to paddled to shore in boats as they found a spot deep enough for their ship. Sonoma was the first of her clan to set rudder on land. She was met soon after by Amber who was carrying a cup of the earlier mentioned tonic.
Sonoma raised an eyebrow as she took the cup, “Fizzy tonic, I haven’t seen this in many seasons. Would you care for a sip ‘afore I greedily drink the whole thing matey?” Amber started for a moment, looking Sonoma up and down before regaining her composer, “Well uh, I made only and just enough for you Skipper. Can’t take away yor well being just to get a sip o’ your drink Skipper.”
Sonoma sipped the small amount of tonic, and then handed the tiny cup back to Amber with a distasteful look, “Well, one thing’s for sure, my young un’ll prob’ly be able t’walk on water after all the liquids I’ll have downed. That tastes absolutely fowl. YUCK!” Sonoma had one of her cooks bring her some sweet bread, she didn’t know why, but she had wanted lots of it lately.
Dirty footpaws scampered about in the bushes not far from the otter clan. None of the otters noticed a small rat that watching them all closely. Once the small creature had decided he’d seen enough, he scampered off, trying to be silent as it brought news of the visitors to Seeinen, his leader.
